Fenerbahce have completed the signing of England forward Mason Greenwood from Marseille on a four-year contract, with the Turkish giants strengthening their squad ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The Turkish club confirmed the transfer fee at 39 million euros (£33.27 million), although previous announcements had suggested the total package could rise to 45 million euros (£38.36 million) through bonuses and additional payments.
Greenwood Rewards Impressive Season in France
Greenwood arrives in Istanbul after an impressive campaign with Marseille, where he finished joint-second in the 2025-26 Ligue 1 Golden Boot race alongside Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul, scoring 16 league goals.
Since joining the French club from Manchester United in July 2024, Greenwood made a significant impact, scoring 48 goals in 81 appearances across all competitions.
His goalscoring form attracted interest from several clubs, but Fenerbahce moved quickly to secure his signature.
Fenerbahce President Made Greenwood a Priority
Greenwood’s arrival had been widely discussed before Fenerbahce’s presidential elections earlier this summer.
Both presidential candidates, Aziz Yildirim, who ultimately won the election, and Hakan Safi, publicly expressed their desire to bring the forward to the club.
After completing the transfer, Greenwood shared his excitement with supporters.
“Hello Fenerbahce family, thank you so much for the support you have shown me. I am very happy to be here.”
The signing represents one of the club’s biggest acquisitions as they look to challenge for domestic and European honours.
Manchester United Receive Financial Boost
Greenwood originally joined Marseille from Manchester United in a deal worth £26.6 million during the summer of 2024.
At the time of the transfer, United confirmed they had negotiated a significant sell-on clause, widely reported to be worth around 40% of any future transfer profit, meaning the Premier League club is expected to benefit financially from Greenwood’s move to Turkey.
Greenwood came through Manchester United’s academy before leaving Old Trafford following an internal review.
The club decided he would not return to the first-team squad after criminal charges of attempted rape and assault against him were discontinued in February 2023. Greenwood has denied the allegations throughout.
He spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Spanish side Getafe before completing his permanent move to Marseille.
Fenerbahce Target Turkish Super Lig Success
Greenwood joins a Fenerbahce side determined to end its long wait for a Turkish Super Lig title after finishing second for a fifth consecutive season.
The Istanbul club will also begin their European campaign later this month when they face Gornik Zabrze in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round.
With Greenwood adding proven goalscoring ability to the squad, Fenerbahce will hope the high-profile signing can help deliver success both domestically and in Europe during the new campaign.
