Ballon d’Or Results – Harry Kane wins Ballon d’Or ending England’s 25 year wait

Harry Kane wins the Ballon d’Or after an incredible season, ending England’s 25 year wait.

The 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony took place at the London Palladium on Monday night. It was the first time the event has been held in London, and organisers moved it from Paris to mark 70 years since Stanley Matthews won the first Ballon d’Or. Yahoo Sports

A pre-ceremony blunder

The official Ballon d’Or website published articles naming three different players as the 2026 men’s winner before taking them down. Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal each got one. Organisers appear to have prepared for every outcome. The delay was also reported to have pushed the ceremony back by 30 minutes.

The men’s shortlist

The top 30 was revealed in stages before the ceremony. Among those outside the top 10, Jude Bellingham finished 11th, Declan Rice 15th, Vinícius Júnior 17th and Bruno Fernandes 27th.

The ten men who were in contention for the trophy, in no particular order, were Ousmane Dembélé, Erling Haaland, Rodri, Harry Kane, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, Michael Olise and Fabián Ruiz.

The women’s shortlist

Alexia Putellas was clearly the favourite and went on to win the Ballon d’or by a country mile. Barcelona won almost everything on offer last season, and Spain won the Nations League.

The ten women in contention were Temwa Chawinga, Caroline Graham Hansen, Pernille Harder, Patricia Guijarro, Ewa Pajor, Claudia Pina, Bunny Shaw, Alessia Russo, Alexia Putellas and Melchie Dumornay.
