Chelsea have completed the signing of experienced England midfielder Jordan Henderson on a two-year contract after his deal with Brentford was terminated by mutual consent.
The 36-year-old brings a wealth of top-level experience to Stamford Bridge, having enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Liverpool where he captained the Reds to the 2019-20 Premier League title.
During his time at Anfield, Henderson also lifted the Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
Following his Liverpool departure in 2023, Henderson joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq before moving to Dutch giants Ajax in January 2024. He returned to the Premier League with Brentford last summer, making 32 league appearances during the 2025-26 season.
Speaking after completing his move, Henderson said:
“Given the size of the club, the manager (Xabi Alonso), who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t turn down.
“For me, it’s about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I’m very excited to get going.”
Henderson began his professional career at Sunderland, progressing through the club’s academy before making his Premier League debut in November 2008. Ironically, that first appearance came against Chelsea in a 5-0 defeat, and almost two decades later he returns to Stamford Bridge as one of English football’s most decorated midfielders.
The move adds leadership, experience and winning mentality to Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea squad as the Blues continue to strengthen ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
