Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign England midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a club-record £117 million transfer, making him the most expensive signing in the Blues’ history.

The 23-year-old is set to sign a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with the option to extend for an additional year. Rogers is expected to undergo a medical on Monday after returning from England’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The £117m fee also sets a new British record for an English player, surpassing the £116 million Manchester City agreed to pay Nottingham Forest for fellow England midfielder Elliot Anderson earlier this summer.Rogers’ arrival eclipses Chelsea’s previous transfer record of £107 million, which the club paid to sign Argentina World Cup winner Enzo Fernández in 2023.

The signing represents a major statement from new Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso, who is continuing to reshape his squad ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.Morgan Rogers began his career at Manchester City before joining Middlesbrough.

He completed a move to Aston Villa in January 2024 and quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest attacking midfielders.During his time at Villa, Rogers scored 21 league goals in 85 appearances under manager Unai Emery and played a key role in the club’s successful UEFA Europa League-winning campaign last season.

On the international stage, Rogers has earned 21 senior caps for England, scoring once. He also featured in six matches for the Three Lions during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further enhancing his reputation as one of England’s top young talents.
