Christos Tzolis made an immediate impact on his Arsenal debut by scoring as Mikel Arteta’s side opened their pre-season campaign with an impressive 4-1 victory over Girona in Spain.
The 24-year-old winger, who joined the Gunners from Club Brugge in a £34 million deal following Leandro Trossard’s move to Besiktas, wasted little time showing Arsenal supporters what he can offer.
Kai Havertz gave Arsenal the lead in the 16th minute after 16-year-old Max Dowman produced a perfectly weighted through ball for the Germany international to finish calmly past Paulo Gazzaniga.
Tzolis doubled the advantage just before the half-hour mark, skipping past Arnau Martinez before drilling a low strike into the bottom corner with the aid of a slight deflection.
Girona responded early in the second half as Martinez headed home from a corner, but Arsenal quickly regained control. Dowman capped another impressive moment by restoring the two-goal cushion before Gabriel Jesus completed a blistering five-minute spell to make it 4-1.
Arteta named a strong side for the friendly, with recent World Cup returnees Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz and Piero Hincapie all featuring for 30 minutes.
Arsenal continue their pre-season preparations on 5 August when they face Real Betis at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.
