Leeds United have completed the signing of Tarik Muharemovic from Serie A side Sassuolo in a deal worth £34.1 million.
The 23-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international has signed a five-year contract at Elland Road, becoming Leeds’ second arrival of the summer transfer window.
Muharemovic Replaces Pascal Struijk
Muharemovic arrives as the replacement for Pascal Struijk, who joined Brighton in a £20 million move earlier this summer.
He follows winger Harry Wilson, who became Leeds’ first signing of the transfer window after joining on a free transfer from Fulham.
Speaking after completing his move, Muharemovic expressed his determination to make an immediate impact.
“I will give everything for this club. I will give everything, every game.
“I just want to win. I hate to lose and I will fight for every ball, even if it is my head or my feet, I am going.”
World Cup Experience for Leeds’ New Defender
Muharemovic represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Cup, making three appearances during the tournament.
He featured in his country’s last-32 defeat to co-hosts the United States, where he was fouled by Folarin Balogun. The incident resulted in the American forward being shown a red card before FIFA later overturned the suspension.
From Austria to Serie A
Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Muharemovic began his professional career in Austria with Wolfsberger, making his senior debut in 2021.
The defender later joined Italian giants Juventus, although he did not make a first-team appearance before enjoying a successful loan spell at Sassuolo.
His performances earned him a permanent move to the Serie A club in 2025, where he established himself as one of Italy’s promising young defenders.
Juventus Set for Transfer Windfall
Juventus are reportedly set to benefit from Muharemovic’s move to Leeds United, with the Italian club believed to have included a 50% sell-on clause when they sold the defender to Sassuolo last summer.
The deal represents another significant investment by Leeds United as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
