Nottingham Forest have officially appointed Oliver Glasner as their new head coach, marking yet another major change at the City Ground.
The former Crystal Palace boss becomes Forest’s fifth permanent manager in less than 12 months, replacing Vitor Pereira after his dismissal on Tuesday.
The timing of Pereira’s exit raised eyebrows, with the Portuguese coach being sacked just two minutes before a contract exit clause was set to expire.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis believes Glasner is the perfect man to lead the club’s long-term project.”Oliver is a winner,” Marinakis said.
“It was clear that we share the same vision, the same ambition and the same relentless desire to succeed.”
The Austrian coach had been on Forest’s radar since earlier this summer after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season.
Glasner arrives with an impressive reputation after enjoying huge success in recent years.
After taking charge of Crystal Palace in 2024, he guided the Eagles to their first major trophy by winning the FA Cup in his debut season. He followed that achievement by leading Palace to UEFA Europa Conference League glory the following campaign before lifting the Community Shield, where Palace defeated Liverpool on penalties.
His European pedigree stretches back even further. Glasner also led Eintracht Frankfurt to UEFA Europa League success in 2021-22, making him one of only three managers to have won both the Europa League and Europa Conference League.
Despite being offered a new contract by Crystal Palace, Glasner announced earlier this year that he wanted a fresh challenge.
Speaking after his appointment, the 51-year-old revealed that Forest’s ambition played a huge role in his decision.
“From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust in me and my staff to build a strong future together.”
That trust, combined with the potential I see in the squad, made this an exciting opportunity. I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together.”
Nottingham Forest’s managerial changes have come thick and fast.
Nuno EspÃrito Santo started last season in charge before spells for Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira followed.
Glasner now becomes the latest man tasked with delivering stability—and silverware—to one of English football’s most ambitious clubs.
Marinakis made it clear that simply surviving in the Premier League is no longer enough.
“Oliver has consistently shown throughout his career that he can build outstanding teams and deliver success against the strongest competition.
“Our ambition is not simply to compete. Our ambition is to win, challenge for major honours and establish Nottingham Forest once again among the leading clubs in England and Europe.”
Vitor Pereira’s reign lasted just a few months after replacing Sean Dyche in February. He guided Forest to a 16th-place Premier League finish, ending the season five points clear of relegation.
The club also enjoyed an impressive European run, reaching the Europa League semi-finals, where they were knocked out by eventual champions Aston Villa.
With Oliver Glasner now at the helm, Nottingham Forest supporters will hope the constant managerial changes finally give way to stability—and perhaps even a return to competing for major trophies.
