England produced their best performance of the World Cup to beat Mexico 3-2 at the Azteca Stadium and book a quarter-final against Norway.

After a one-hour delay due to severe storms, Thomas Tuchel’s side took control before half-time as Jude Bellingham scored twice in under two minutes. Mexico responded through Julian Quinones, leaving England with a narrow lead at the break.

England faced a major setback early in the second half when Jarell Quansah was sent off for a high challenge.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Harry Kane restored England’s two-goal advantage from the penalty spot after Anthony Gordon was fouled. Raul Jimenez later converted a penalty for Mexico to make it 3-2.

Under intense pressure in front of a passionate home crowd, England defended resolutely through 11 minutes of stoppage time. Tuchel strengthened his defence with late substitutions as his side held on for an impressive victory.

The result was built on discipline, resilience and an outstanding display from Bellingham, whose two goals and all-round performance helped England overcome one of the toughest tests of their campaign and reach the last eight.
