Former Wycombe Wanderers and AFC Wimbledon striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has taken on an exciting new role in football after becoming a shareholder in ambitious new non-league club FC Farsley.
The 44-year-old cult hero has joined forces with close friends David and Katie Stockdale to help shape the future of the newly established club, which was formed following the collapse of Farsley Celtic.
The move reunites Akinfenwa with former Wycombe teammate David Stockdale, who now serves as FC Farsley’s manager and Director of Football. The club will compete in the Yorkshire Amateur Football League Supreme Division (Step 7) during its inaugural 2026/27 campaign. Katie Stockdale is the club’s Chair.
Akinfenwa Backs FC Farsley’s Community Vision
Across an outstanding professional career spanning more than 700 senior appearances, Akinfenwa became one of English football’s most recognisable figures thanks to his powerful playing style, infectious personality and passion for the game.
Since retiring, the former striker has developed a successful business portfolio while continuing to support football through community projects and mentoring opportunities. He believes FC Farsley’s long-term vision perfectly matches his own values.
Speaking about his investment, Akinfenwa said:
“When David and Katie told me about their plans for FC Farsley, it was impossible not to get excited.
“I’ve known them both for many years and I know the passion, honesty and hard work they put into everything they do.
“This isn’t just about football—it’s about building a club that genuinely serves its community and creates opportunities for people.
“Becoming a shareholder was an easy decision because I believe in the people leading the club and the vision they’ve created. I’m looking forward to helping wherever I can, meeting the supporters and being part of what I believe will be a really exciting future for FC Farsley.”
David Stockdale Delighted to Welcome Former Teammate
Stockdale believes Akinfenwa’s involvement is another major step in establishing the club’s long-term ambitions.
He said:
“I’ve known Adebayo for a long time, and we shared some fantastic years together in professional football.
“I know exactly what he brings—not just because of the player he was, but because of the person he is. He cares deeply about football, about people and about giving back to the game.
“When we discussed our plans for FC Farsley, he immediately understood what we’re trying to achieve. The fact he’s chosen to become a shareholder speaks volumes about his belief in the project.
“Having someone of his calibre involved is fantastic for everyone connected with the club, and I’m excited to continue this journey alongside him.”
Katie Stockdale: “He Believes in Our Journey”
Chair Katie Stockdale says Akinfenwa’s investment is built on years of friendship and a shared commitment to creating a football club with strong community values.
She said:
“Adebayo has been a close friend of ours for many years, so this isn’t simply someone joining the club—it’s someone who genuinely believes in what we’re trying to achieve.
“From day one, we’ve wanted to build a football club that puts people and the community first.
“Adebayo shares those values completely, and we’re delighted to have someone with his experience, passion and personality helping us grow both on and off the pitch. His belief in our vision means a great deal.”
FC Farsley Launches ‘Pay What You Feel’ Admission Initiative
Alongside announcing Akinfenwa’s arrival, FC Farsley has also revealed an innovative ‘Pay What You Feel’ admission model for the 2026/27 season.
Supporters attending matches at Throstle Nest will be free to decide how much they wish to contribute, removing financial barriers and encouraging more local families, young supporters and members of the community to attend games.
The club hopes the initiative will strengthen community engagement while creating a welcoming and inclusive matchday atmosphere during its first season.
Stockdale added:
“Football is at its best when it brings people together, and that’s exactly what we want to achieve.
“Creating a positive atmosphere around the club is incredibly important. Having more supporters, families and young people at matches will only strengthen what we’re building.
“We want players to represent a club that’s connected to its community, and supporters to feel like they’re genuinely part of the journey.
“Hopefully this initiative encourages even more people to come along, enjoy their football and get behind the team throughout the season.”
With Adebayo Akinfenwa joining the ownership group and a strong focus on community engagement, FC Farsley is aiming to make an immediate impact both on and off the pitch as it begins a new chapter in non-league football.
